There was a wide jubilation by the residents of Agbor in Ika south Local Government Area, comprising the elders, chiefs and youths of the area, as the executive chairman of the Ika South council, Hon. Fred Ofume, recovered 7051.579 square meters of land used as abattoir (popularly known as Musa slaughter), allegedly acquired dubiously in the GRA, Agbor, along Abraka/Uromi road by one Mr. Alex Ikpeazu with forged documents.
The people who trouped out en mass to witness the demolition of the illegal structures used as markets thanked God for the rescue mission and commended the LGA chairman for his giant strides.
The Chairman stressed the determination of his administration to reclaim all government lands acquired illegally by private persons in Government Reservation Area (GRA), without the consent and approval of the Council.
He emphasized that the demolition would be a continuous process and promised to resettle all the traders in the abattoir who were affected by the demolition and urged them to visit the council secretariat for identification and formal registration. He also disclosed that there would be a befitting structure with a hygienic environment suitable for trading and also pleaded with the traders to bear the effect of the change as it will be only for a short while. Hon. Ofume expressed bitterness over the arbitrary charges the traders were paying periodically to the illegal beneficiary stressing that the market was supposed to generate revenue for the council and not to any individual without remittance.
The council boss appreciated the state government and the people of Ika south for their support, solidarity and cooperation.
