Augustine Ekamagule resigns as Editor Ika Weekly.

The Editor of Ika Weekly Newspaper, Mr. Augustine Ekamagule, has quit his job in the organisation following his resignation as a staff of the Ika Weekly newspaper establishment.

In a message, the fomer editor said

"I am no more the Editor and a staff of Ika Weekly newspaper. My sincere thanks to the Publisher,Management and Staff of the newspaper for the opportunity to work with them since May,2010.I expressed my profound gratitude to my dear and loving Ika people for the huge support given to me these years.I equally begged for pardon in any area I have offended anyone in the course of discharging my duties as a staff of Ika Weekly.Life is dynamic,we pray for God's continued guidance and protection...... Augustine Ekamagule.."

Reasons for his resignation was not disclosed as at the time of filing this report but we gathered that the Publisher, on receiving the editor's resignation letter, responded by saying "IT IS A WELCOMED DEVELOPMENT".

TWO YEARS ANNIVERSARY: ALIKA CONGRATULATES GOVERNOR OKOWA, DELTANS FOR THEIR SUPPORT

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Paul Alika, has congratulated the state governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa on his two years anniversary in office, describing him as miracle working governor. Mr. Alika also commeneded Deltans for their support for the governor within the period under review. Alika said governor Okowa has performed remarkably well within this two years in office despite the economic downturn in the country and paucity of funds. THE ORIGINS AND HISTORY OF IKA PEOPLE Ika communities mostly comprise the following: Agbor, Owa, Umunede, Mbiri, Abavo, Orogodo, Otolokpo, Igbodo, Ute-Okpu, Ute-Ugbeje, Idumuesah, Akumazi, Ekpon (Edo State), Igbanke (Edo State), Inyelen Edo State). The Ika people are specifically located in the North-West of Delta State but some like Igbanke, Inyelen and Ekpon are presently located in Edo State. Other Ika communities found in Edo State are Owanikeke, Owa-Riuzo Idu and Igbogili. Specifically, Ika people occupy Ika North East and Ika South Local Government Areas of Delta State and a land area of about 117.45 square kilometres. Since the 2006 population census did not stipulate the official figure for ethnic groups, the total population figure of the Ika people remains officially unknown.
