Several properties destroyed as fire razes building at Umunede.

Several properties and cash worth millions of Naira were destroyed on Friday, March 17, as fired razed a building at Umunede in Ika North-East local government area, Delta state.

According to a report on Ika Weekly Newspaper, the destroyed building which is located along Umunede-Ogwashi Uku road,  Delta state, had generators, vulcanizing machines, welding machines and other valuables including cash accommodated in it.

It was gathered that the fire started at about 11pm‎, when most of the shop owners had closed for the day.

On noticing the fire, the tenants were said to have quickly rushed out of the building as nobody sustained any injury. There was pandemonium.

However, a large crowd of sympathisers were seen on the street while some of the tenants struggled to salvage some of their belongings without knowing the cause of the inferno.

According to one of the victims, Mr. Christopher Iyitor,  who wept uncontrollably said ”Somebody just called me at about 11pm because I left my shop by 7pm,  that our shop was burning so I quickly rushed down there only to discover that everything had been destroyed including my cash of about N350,000".
The victims have appealed to well spirited individuals to assist in cushioning the effects of the damage.
